Live Kitchen Rescue is an AI-powered culinary companion designed to make cooking easier, smarter, and less stressful. Acting like a personal sous chef, it helps people troubleshoot cooking mishaps, turn available ingredients into meal ideas, analyse dishes, manage allergens, build shopping lists, and track macros in one kitchen-friendly experience.

Adding a chef’s intuition to an AI-powered mobile experience presented unique challenges. The application had to solve problems in real time, generate recipes, analyze dishes, ensure allergy safety, and track nutrition, all the while operating fast and reliably in a busy kitchen.
The AI had to parse vague, panicked descriptions like “I burned the garlic” and prescribe the proper series of actionable, chef-approved fixes, right then and there.
Supporting text, fridge scans and dish photos meant seamlessly integrating computer vision, natural language processing and generative AI pipelines.
Household dietary restrictions had to persist and allergens be flagged before cooking, requiring a conservative, transparent, reliable system.
The AI needed to recognize ingredients from photos, estimate quantities and create coherent meals while reducing food waste.
Macro tracking, cost-saving swaps, seasonal guidance, shopping lists, cookbook management, and subscriptions had to coexist in one fast, clutter-free interface.

To address these challenges, we focused on developing an AI-first architecture wrapped in a clean and kitchen-friendly user interface. Our goal was to make complex culinary reasoning simple and natural, as if you had a chef by your side, not a search engine.
We integrated Google’s Gemini for visual recognition and OpenAI for conversational reasoning, so each feature uses the AI best suited to its purpose.
The LKR assistant lets users discuss food issues in natural language and receive real-time, chef-approved advice, making the app an active cooking companion.
Recipes, fixes, and suggestions are filtered through each household’s allergy profile. The app surfaces detected allergens and reminds users to check packaging for extra safety.
Inspire Me uses camera scans and text input to identify ingredients, then matches them with chef-approved recipes to keep costs down and reduce waste.
Analyse a Dish uses generative AI to create full recipes for home cooking and computer vision to identify ingredients in a photographed dish.
Protein, carbohydrates, and fat are tracked as part of cooking, with nutrition shown alongside recipes instead of in a separate app.
A dynamic swap system recommends seasonal produce and cheaper cuts, while a built-in shopping list lets users add items and tick them off while shopping.
Sous Chef membership offers monthly or yearly plans, a 7-day free trial, clear renewal terms, and cancellation through Apple or Google account settings.
We worked closely with the founding chefs to build useful, delightful features, informed by research into the pain points of home cooking.
Scan or snap what’s in the fridge, or enter ingredients manually. AI builds a complete recipe around what you have, reducing waste and the “what’s for dinner?” guesswork.
Photograph a dish from a restaurant or online and get a recipe to make it at home, bridging inspiration and execution for restaurant-quality meals.
Describe a mishap—from burnt garlic or too much salt to split sauce or overcooked chicken—and get prioritized fixes in plain English, in the order to do them.
Create a list before heading to the store and mark items as purchased while shopping, keeping everything organized and reducing forgotten items.
Keep saved recipes and step-by-step cooking instructions together, revisit favorites, and build a personal recipe collection.

Recipes flag allergens detected from household allergy data and remind users to check packaging before cooking.
Call the AI assistant for food-related concerns, cooking technique questions, kitchen emergencies, and ingredient substitutions, with real-time conversational help.
Find practical ingredient swaps, cheaper cuts worth buying, and what’s in season—because great meals can start with the least expensive item in the store.
Track protein, carbs, and fat in the same app you use to cook, without needing a separate nutrition tracker.
Sous Chef is available monthly or yearly, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; cancel anytime in Apple account settings.
